Key Responsibilities
Job Description
The communication coordinator supports the Utah Division of Water Rights' mission by creating and distributing information that educates and informs external and internal audiences. This is done through copywriting, graphic design, photography, video production, digital information channels, and other communications avenues. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who is tech-savvy with a keen ability to solve problems.
Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:
- Ability to produce work with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to quickly research, understand, produce messages explaining complex issues including water law, engineering practices, legislative actions, and policies & procedures.
- Ability to quickly create effective and innovative social media content, website information, fact sheets, news releases, newsletter articles, reports, and other communication materials using impeccable grammar.
- Ability to utilize graphic design, original photography, and video-editing skills to produce visually appealing presentations, slides, digital content, printed materials, and infographics with adherence to effective branding practices.
- Ability to manage media requests, facilitate media relations initiatives, draft responses, and collaborate with division and department staff to deliver media messaging. (Note: this role will rarely appear on camera or act as a division spokesperson).
- Ability to maintain social media and communication campaign metrics, and manage websites using WordPress and custom CMS Tools.
- Ability to maintain routine reports, content submissions, and other administrative activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
- Writing and editing, creative storytelling
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Google Slides, Web Content Management Systems (i.e., WordPress)
- Graphic design skills (Adobe Suite, Canva)
- Social media content and metrics management
Preferred Or Trainable/on-the-job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, English, writing, photography, digital media or film, or a closely related field.
- Experience with photography, video production, and editing, and using editing tools (i.e., Adobe Suite and Adobe Premiere)
- Web development, web design, web programming, database management.
- Strategic communications planning.
- Understanding of state government, water rights, or engineering practices.
