The Young People’s Alliance is a youth-led, bipartisan organization helping young people reclaim the American Dream and representing 3,000 students across 75 campuses nationally. We develop innovative policy solutions that actually work for our generation and achieve real policy change for our generation on affordability, economic opportunity, and community in the AI era.
Our team has passed legislation in multiple states, mobilized tens of thousands of students to vote, and is a recognized leader on emerging issues like AI companions, social media design, and the future of work.
We are seeking a creative, digitally savvy person to become our Summer Communications Associate.
This person will:
- Collaborate with the Communications Director to plan and execute YPA's content calendar, creating and publishing content 3–5 times per week across Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms.
- Edit and produce short-form video content (Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts) that connects with Gen Z audiences and supports campaign goals.
- Help develop and refine YPA's social media strategy, monitor channels, engage the community, and flag trending topics for rapid response.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists covering youth advocacy, economic policy, education, and technology; support media pitching and coverage tracking.
- Support YPA's newsletter production, email campaign strategy, and subscriber engagement efforts.
- Coordinate with partner organizations and identify aligned influencers and creators for campaign amplification and outreach.
- Assist with planning, promoting, and covering virtual and in-person events, capturing content for post-event storytelling.
- Support the execution of major digital campaigns, including petitions, advocacy pushes, and youth-led initiatives.
- Contribute to scalable communications systems, maintain digital asset libraries, and research emerging platforms and trends.
Qualities:
- Creative storyteller with strong instincts for what resonates with young audiences on social media.
- Proactive and reliable communicator who deeply cares about people.
- Self-starting mentality and comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines , and able to be adaptive to a constantly changing media cycle.
- Experience with social media management, content creation, and short-form video production preferred (1–3 years). Lived experience with issues affecting young people is a plus.
- Excited to work across party lines and connect with a variety of audiences and partners.
- Strong eye for brand consistency and ability to translate organizational goals into engaging digital content.
- Non-stop drive to improve the lives of young people.
Preference for a candidate based in Washington, DC.
$20/hour paid according to a 40 hour workweek.
