EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe Pride Center of Vermont (PCVT) is seeking a Communications & Community Navigation Contractor to support the organization during a critical period of transition and rebuilding. This contractor will play a central role in maintaining clear, consistent, and community-centered communication while also supporting 2STLGBQIA+ Vermonters in accessing affirming health and social service resources.
Working closely with the Board of Directors, the contractor will contribute to sustaining trust, strengthening access to care, and maintaining critical infrastructure, including PCVT’s 2STLGBQIA+ Health & Wellness Resource Directory, while the organization prepares for its next phase of leadership and programming.
ABOUT THE ROLEPCVT has seen rising demand for affirming healthcare, mental health resources, gender-affirming care, and social service navigation. Our online resource directory has become a critical access point for community members, healthcare providers, and institutional partners statewide.
The Communications & Community Navigation Contractor is a time-limited role to sustain essential public communications and online resources for 2STLGBQIA+ Vermonters during PCVT’s leadership transition. The contractor will ensure clear and timely messaging aligned with community needs across email, website, social media, and print. Content will be accessible, affirming, and responsive.
Duties to include communications planning and execution such as:
- Maintain and strengthen PCVT’s 2STLGBQIA+ Health & Wellness Resource Directory by verifying and updating listings, expanding provider representation, & improving the overall accessibility and usability
- Track incoming inquiries, and identify emerging trends in community need
- Maintain email newsletter and other communications efforts
- Draft fundraising communications and appeal management
- Manage Social Media channels
- Create, copyright and proofread content
- Update website content for accuracy including resource directory, calendar, news, and events
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CONTRACTOR
The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, community-centered practice, and the flexibility to operate effectively in a transitional, evolving environment. Key capabilities include website design, writing, accessible design, and cultural humility.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in communications, public engagement, or related fields; strong writing and editing skills;
- Deep understanding of 2STLGBQIA+ communities, with particular insight into rural or small-state contexts;
- Experience with nonprofits in transition or roles balancing strategic communication with direct community interaction;
- Commitment to equity, accessibility, and trauma-informed communication; and
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong coordination with organizational leadership.
CONTRACT DETAILSThis is a short-term, project-based contract designed to support PCVT through its current transition period.
The anticipated timeline is May 1 through October 1, 2026, with the possibility to extend. The expected commitment is approximately 12–15 hours per week. Compensation is $42/hr. This is an independent contractor role: benefits are not included.
The role is fully remote, though familiarity with Vermont and its service landscape is strongly preferred.
