Compensation: $180k - $220k + Executive Package
Position Overview
The Vice President of Retail Operations serves as the strategic architect and operational leader for our retail network, bridging the gap between commercial profitability and mission-driven impact. The ideal candidate balances rigorous P&L ownership with a passion for accessibility, inclusion, and scalable operational systems.
- Strategic & Commercial Leadership - Design and execute a forward-looking retail strategy that simultaneously accelerates financial performance and deepens the organization’s social mission.
- Translate high-level commercial goals into actionable, measurable operational plans that enhance productivity, accessibility, and mission outcomes across all locations.
- Lead enterprise-wide change initiatives to strengthen operational consistency, efficiency, and mission integration throughout the retail network.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for sustainable growth—including new store development, service expansion, and strategic partnerships—ensuring each initiative supports long-term mission viability and business health.
- Oversee day-to-day store operations to deliver a best-in-class, service-driven customer experience while maintaining full accessibility and inclusion for employees and patrons.
- Ensure all retail environments meet the needs of local communities and federal contracting officers, fulfilling all obligations for government-funded services.
- Implement and enforce operational standards, merchandising guidelines, and store-level procedures that reinforce brand integrity, mission outcomes, and service consistency.
- Optimize labor models to balance customer service demands, operational efficiency, and workforce development goals.
- Cultivate a consistent, positive customer journey that reflects the organization’s core values, including clienteling and relationship-driven service.
- Own the retail P&L, balancing profitability targets with the organization’s mission-driven workforce commitments.
- Monitor KPIs—including sales growth, service metrics, labor efficiency, and margin performance—to drive continuous improvement across all stores.
- Strengthen inventory and cash management systems to safeguard company assets and ensure rigorous internal controls.
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, and reporting to support both aggressive strategic growth and long-term mission sustainability.
- Use data-driven insights to enhance productivity, pricing, product mix, and margin, all while maintaining inclusive employment practices.
- Ensure full compliance with federal contracting requirements, labor laws, accessibility standards, and workplace safety regulations.
- Implement strong internal controls to reduce operational risk, shrink, fraud, and inconsistencies across the retail network.
- Oversee audit processes and corrective action plans, ensuring that mission integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational performance remain fully aligned.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing field organization, including Regional/Area Managers and Store Leaders.
- Foster a mission-centered leadership culture rooted in accountability, service excellence, accessibility, and inclusion.
- Provide training and development that equips retail leaders to effectively supervise, support, and grow diverse teams, including employees with disabilities.
- Act as the voice of retail across the organization, providing field insights to inform assortment, pricing, marketing, and continuous improvement strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Retail Management, or a related field.
- Progressive retail operations leadership with demonstrated multi-unit experience (large, geographically dispersed teams).
- Proven experience leading inclusive teams and supporting employees with disabilities.
- Track record of managing senior field leaders (District/Regional Managers and Store Leaders).
- Deep ownership of revenue and P&L performance; ability to balance profitability with mission-driven workforce commitments.
- Demonstrated success driving continuous process improvement, scalability, and quality to meet evolving client expectations.
- Highly data-driven, with the ability to translate insights into actionable operational and commercial strategies.
- Experience managing senior-level client relationships and a passion for service culture and clienteling.
- Strategic leadership, change management, effective communication, and a deep personal commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and mission-driven work.
