Overview
The Copy Editor supports enterprise-wide communications, driving awareness, readiness, and adoption through high-volume editorial content, including newsletters, intranet articles, and enterprise digests.
This role partners cross-functionally to manage the end-to-end editorial lifecycle, ensuring messaging is clear, accurate, and aligned with strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Type: Contract, fully on-site each day in Chicago
Schedule: Regular hours
Duration: 6 months
Pay: $35 - $42/hr, paid weekly, benefits eligible
Copy Editor Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in corporate/internal communications within complex, regulated environments
- Demonstrated expertise in writing, editing, and project management for large-scale communications
- Proven ability to collaborate with senior leadership, product teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Proficiency with Adobe Workfront or similar workflow/project management tools
- Experience using enterprise email distribution platforms for high-volume communications
- Strong time management, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple competing priorities
- Adaptable and responsive, with the ability to pivot based on evolving business needs and strategy
- Familiarity with AP style guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams)
Copy Editor Duties
- Build and distribute a weekly enterprise digest, delivering critical updates to a large employee audience (~13,000)
- Manage the editorial lifecycle for communications, including content intake, triage, prioritization, editing, approvals, and publication
- Review and refine editorial content to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to brand and communication standards
- Leverage workflow tools to maintain structured processes and governance across communications initiatives
- Source, draft, edit, and publish intranet articles and other internal communications assets
- Support production of a large-scale enterprise newsletter (~30,000 employees), including content planning, compilation, quality control, and publishing
- Collaborate with stakeholders across business units to ensure accurate messaging and timely delivery
- Contribute to broader business and executive communications, including presentations, leadership messaging, and meeting materials
- Ensure all communications align with strategic initiatives, driving awareness, engagement, and adoption across the organization
