About the Role
An award-winning, independently owned online political news organization is hiring an Associate Editor to help shape its journalism and get it in front of the right audiences. Founded during the 2000 Florida recount, the outlet is known for driving national political coverage and has won major awards, including a George Polk Award. It operates on a membership-based business model and has maintained financial stability and growth through a period of upheaval in the news industry.
The associate editor will work across the full lifecycle of a story, from the moment a reporter begins working on it through distribution across newsletters, social video, traditional social platforms, and beyond. A central part of the role is ensuring the organization's audience, and especially its members, understands the significance of the storylines being covered. This is both an editorial and an audience-strategy position for someone who can shape stories and ensure they find readers, listeners, and viewers.
