UTHealth Houston's Children's Learning Institute is hiring a Communication Specialist! The Communication Specialist develops and delivers strategic communications, supporting initiatives such as Texas School Ready (TSR), TECPDS, and other programs. This role creates clear, engaging content that promotes early childhood resources, professional development opportunities, and stakeholder engagement across digital, print, and event channels. The Communication Specialist also povides communications support for departmental programs through content development, writing and editing, website and newsletter management, project coordination, graphic design, and promotional materials for education and outreach initiatives, by working closely with program managers and stakeholders, the specialist ensures consistent branding and effective communication through newsletters, email campaigns, websites, webinars, social media, and other digital/print assets. Occasional travel is required to support events and conferences across Texas.
This candidate may demonstrate expertise in strategic communications, content development, digital outreach, and project coordination, and be skilled in creating and managing engaging content across websites, newsletters, email campaigns, social media, and promotional materials while ensuring consistent branding and messaging. They may have a proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders, support events and webinars, analyze communication performance, and manage multiple projects effectively. Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills, with proficiency in communication technologies and graphic design tools to support education, outreach, and engagement initiatives.

Position Summary:
Provides a broad range of communications support to departmental programs including writing and editing, project planning, health education/promotion activities.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Gathers information, generates ideas, and develops and influences the development of high quality, creative materials and programs.
- Gathers information through research and interviews with faculty, staff and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients.
- Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials.
- Writes news/feature articles for publication.
- Collaborates with team members and/or other faculty/staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
None
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field required
Minimum Experience:
3 years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field required
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
