We’re seeking a talented and versatile Communications Specialist to join our high-performing Student Journey team. Every day you will make a difference in the lives of others by designing, implementing, evaluating and managing targeted communication campaigns and experiences aligned with student recruitment and persistence goals, communicating the right message at the right time to the right audience in a way that is actionable and scalable. Your efforts will include reaching national and international audiences through various engagement channels, including but not limited to email and SMS. You will possess the technical expertise to create, deploy and measure mass communication campaigns and will manage multiple campaigns in coordination with project leads and stakeholders, reporting back results to leadership and client units.
NOTE: This is an in-person, hybrid position. You must be able to reliably commute to Scottsdale AZ.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and manage end-to-end communication flows, in partnership with EdPlus and the ASU Enterprise, guiding prospective students from college choice through enrollment (including pathways and ASU Online) and supporting current students through registration, financial aid, and degree completion.
- Champion AI-driven personalization at scale, using Marketing Cloud's Einstein, Claude, and other emerging tools to deliver segmented and 1:1 campaigns, including corporate partner-specific messaging on eligibility and benefits.
- Use a data-first approach to identify student pain points, run multivariate tests, validate audience targeting against business rules, and track engagement and ROI to continually optimize communications.
- Partner with stakeholders across academic units, support services, the CRM team, success center, enrollment center, data teams, and colleges/units to gather requirements and build comprehensive, non-redundant communication strategies
- Develop contextual, motivational content, including college-specific resources, eligibility, benefits, alumni success stories, and milestone celebrations, to strengthen student connection and persistence.
- Implement targeted re-engagement strategies to help prospective students complete enrollment and help current students persist toward completion.
- Perform meticulous QA testing on campaigns, covering personalization, dynamic content, segmentation rules, and compliance with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CCPA, CASL, and TCPA, with close attention to detail and a willingness to question the data when something looks off to catch errors before they reach students.
- Create, design, schedule, and optimize campaigns across email, SMS, dialer, app notifications, and ringless voicemail, including building and troubleshooting email templates with dynamic content, AMPscript, interactive content, personalization logic, segmentation, and rendering, while serving as a resource on design and layout best practices.
- Exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making to prioritize work, solve problems, and contribute new ideas and journey mapping that produce measurable improvements in student outcomes.
- Write and review content to ensure adherence to ASU and corporate partner brand guidelines, document learners' communication experience across products, and contribute to market research to understand and segment student audiences.
- Coordinate or assume other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
- Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including Journey Builder.
- Demonstrated proficiency creating mobile, responsive Email communications and Email templates using HTML, CSS, and AMPScript.
- Proven record of developing, executing, and analyzing marketing communication campaigns, including documenting and visualizing communication experiences.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience conducting 1:1 and mass communication campaigns across channels such as email and SMS, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Experience in working effectively with others to ensure projects meet deadlines and budgets.
- Experience analyzing campaign and research data and translating findings into actionable insights for the broader organization.
- Demonstrated passion for new technologies, including AI tools and their application to prospective and current student communications.
- Experience thinking creatively and strategically when handling complex issues.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive, adapt and re-prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Salary & Benefits:
$71,500 – $74,000 per year; DOE
