Position Overview
The Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce (WVCC) is seeking a motivated, relationship-focused professional to serve as its Membership & Engagement Specialist.
This position plays an important role in the continued growth of the Chamber, with a primary focus on recruiting new members, strengthening relationships with existing members, supporting renewals and retention, and helping communicate the value and impact of WVCC membership.
The successful candidate will understand that membership engagement and organizational growth go hand in hand. This is a results-oriented position where success will ultimately be reflected in stronger member relationships, increased membership, improved retention, and increased membership revenue.
The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who communicates effectively, enjoys developing relationships, stays organized, and is comfortable working independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving nonprofit and chamber environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit new members through outreach, referrals, calls, emails, meetings, networking, events, and community engagement.
- Develop and maintain a consistent pipeline of prospective members and follow up on membership opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with current members and help ensure they understand and utilize the value of their WVCC membership.
- Monitor upcoming membership renewals, conduct proactive outreach, address member questions or concerns, and support retention efforts.
- Identify opportunities to increase membership revenue through new member acquisition, renewals, retention, and increased member engagement.
- Coordinate new-member onboarding, introductions, engagement, and follow-up.
- Respond promptly and professionally to membership inquiries, emails, phone calls, and general information requests.
- Maintain accurate member and prospective-member information, communications, activity, and follow-up within GrowthZone Chamber Edition.
- Assist with the development and distribution of WVCC newsletters, mass emails, membership announcements, renewal recognition, and other member communications.
- Develop and coordinate basic social media content highlighting members, programs, events, partnerships, and Chamber activities.
- Support membership promotions, campaigns, and other initiatives designed to increase awareness and participation in the Chamber.
- Assist with member surveys and feedback efforts to identify opportunities to strengthen the member experience and improve retention.
- Support WVCC events, including member communications, registration, attendee engagement, and post-event follow-up as needed.
- Represent WVCC professionally at networking events, meetings, programs, conferences, and community activities throughout Wisconsin.
- Work collaboratively with the Vice President and other WVCC leadership to identify opportunities for membership and revenue growth.
- Prepare membership updates, reports, prospect lists, renewal information, and other internal tracking information.
- Perform other membership, engagement, and organizational duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Approximately 2–4 years of experience in membership development, customer service, sales, business development, nonprofit administration, association management, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional relationships and comfortably engage business and community leaders.
- A results-oriented mindset and an understanding of the relationship between member service, relationship development, and revenue growth.
- Excellent organization, follow-through, time-management, and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, solve problems, and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable conducting proactive outreach by telephone, email, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email marketing platforms, social media, virtual meeting technology, and database or CRM systems.
- Experience with GrowthZone Chamber Edition is highly desirable. Candidates with comparable CRM experience and the ability to learn GrowthZone quickly will also be considered.
- Experience creating newsletters, email campaigns, basic social media content, or member communications is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Wisconsin for Chamber events, meetings, and programs.
- Ability to occasionally attend events and meetings outside traditional business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military Veteran preferred, but not required.
- Experience working with Veterans, military families, Veteran-owned businesses, chambers of commerce, nonprofits, or membership-based organizations.
- Familiarity with Wisconsin's business, workforce-development, Veteran-service, or chamber communities.
- Experience in membership recruitment, customer retention, relationship management, or business development.
Compensation & Work Environment
The salary range for this full-time position is $50,000–$60,000 annually, based on experience.
WVCC provides an employer retirement contribution match of up to 3%.
WVCC also maintains a highly flexible time-off policy, providing employees significant autonomy to manage personal time while ensuring that responsibilities, member needs, events, and organizational commitments are met.
This position does not currently include employer-sponsored health insurance.
The Membership & Engagement Specialist will work remotely from within Wisconsin. While there is no regular requirement to report to a physical office, travel throughout Wisconsin is an important component of the position. The successful candidate should expect to attend WVCC events, member meetings, networking opportunities, and other activities as needed.

Success in this position will be measured by the individual's ability to help grow the Chamber and strengthen the value of WVCC membership.
The successful Membership & Engagement Specialist will:
- Consistently develop and convert new membership opportunities.
- Increase membership revenue through effective recruitment and follow-up.
- Maintain strong renewal and retention performance.
- Build meaningful relationships with members and increase member engagement.
- Maintain an active and organized pipeline of prospective members.
- Communicate consistently and effectively with WVCC members and prospects.
- Maintain accurate and timely membership information and follow-up.
- Serve as a responsive, dependable, and professional representative of WVCC throughout Wisconsin.
Ultimately, this position should move the needle on revenue by helping WVCC bring new members into the organization, retain the members it already serves, and strengthen the relationships that support the Chamber's continued growth.
