Sports Business Journal is a globally recognized brand that is the go-to news and network source for thousands of sports business professionals producing breaking content daily, hosting over 20 events a year, and offering insight and analysis to thousands of subscribers.
Job Description
The Staff Writer’s primary responsibilities will be assembling and proofing aggregated content for Sports Business Journal’s daily digital editions. The Staff Writer will search for news, identify key sports business angles / trends, write stories and build content in our CMS. The Staff Writer also will work on original features.
The Staff Writer will be tasked with communicating with teams, leagues and other organizations to coordinate stories for SBJ and also to work with an internal team of writers and editors to produce the most timely content.

Job Responsibilities
- Write aggregated copy in a clear, concise manner on deadline and turn complicated subjects and issues into readable stories.
- Write eye-catching headlines and photo captions.
- Copy edit stories in accordance with AP / SBJ style.
- Be part of editorial committee on special projects for SBJ.
- Consistently pitch original story ideas.
- Assist in putting out all SBJ daily editions (Buzz, Daily, Bell).
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with top sports business executives and current/former athletes in person, online or on the phone.
- As needed, attend SBJ conferences or other events and represent the company in a respectable manner.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- General office environment. Extensive computer use required. Ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
