The Downtown Bremerton Association (DBA) is seeking a passionate and community-minded Communications Coordinator to help tell our story, amplify our mission, and build meaningful connections with businesses, media, and the community. This part-time role is perfect for someone with strong communication skills, a creative mind, and a love for downtown Bremerton.
This position is only funded through December 2025; but it may be extended to a permanent position contingent upon continued funding.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & Public Relations
- Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and event announcements
- Maintain a positive and professional image of the DBA in all public-facing communications
- Draft and send the monthly DBA newsletter and the volunteer newsletter
- Write engaging blog posts highlighting events, businesses, and community initiatives
- Respond to media inquiries and support proactive media outreach
- Learn and effectively communicate to the public the Main Street 4 Point Approach and the DBA’s mission and vision
Social Media & Digital Content
- Manage DBA’s social media platforms (currently Facebook and Instagram)
- Create timely, engaging content using Canva and post regularly to promote events and initiatives
- Update and maintain the Wix-based events calendar and blog on the DBA website
- Coordinate content planning and posting through tools like Slack and Google Docs
Promote the Main Street Approach
- Create and share engaging content that reflects the four points of the Main Street Approach: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.
- Highlight local businesses, public art, historic preservation, and community-driven revitalization efforts.
- Develop campaigns and stories that showcase the positive impact of downtown initiatives.
- Foster a sense of place and pride by uplifting community voices and spotlighting collaborative efforts.
Community & Business Engagement
- Build and maintain positive relationships with downtown businesses
- Collect updates, events, and business highlights to feature in newsletters, blogs, and social media
- Attend committee meetings and Team Bremerton meetings as a DBA representative
- Staff the DBA’s Tuesday & Wednesday hours at the Kitsap History Museum (11am-5pm), greeting visitors and tracking attendance.
Administrative & Event Support
- Track social and media engagement metrics
- Maintain organized PR & communications files, contact lists, and a press/media database
Support event promotion and community outreach efforts through communications
- Promote and provide communications support for Downtown Bremerton Association events, including but not limited to:
- GreenDrinks
- Winterfest
- St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Fun Run
- Femmes and Thems Night Out
- Trick or Treat Street
- Rock the Dock
- Quincy Square Events
- Collaborate with event organizers, volunteers, and community partners to ensure clear messaging and high community engagement.
- Utilize a variety of communication channels (email, social media, website, posters, etc.) to increase awareness and participation.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Experience managing social media and writing for digital platforms
- Proficiency with Canva, Wix, Slack, and Google Workspace
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interest in placemaking, local business, and community development
Schedule & Work Environment:
- In-person work required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 AM – 4 PM, at the Kitsap History Museum
- Additional remote/flexible hours as needed
Occasional evening or weekend event attendance required
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
