NBC News is seeking an experienced newsletter writer and editor for a temporary position producing the Morning Rundown, the marquee daily newsletter of NBCNews.com.
As a member of NBC News Digital’s platforms team in Los Angeles, the newsletter editor will work 3 p.m.-11 p.m. PT Mondays to Fridays, including occasional weekends and holidays.
It is essential that this editor be able to meet deadlines and multitask. The editor will be responsible for producing the newsletter while also curating NBCNews.com’s owned and social platforms, including the homepage and app, which reaches millions of readers.
The editor will also write and send news alerts for the app and email and distribute stories across social accounts.
The editor will handle stories from all newsroom sections, including breaking news, politics, business, sports, and lifestyle. During breaking news, they will coordinate seamlessly with editors across the newsroom, ensure the best headlines for the cover, get the news out across platforms, write and send news alerts, and pitch stories to our news partners.
This is a temporary six-month position beginning at the end of August, covering a maternity leave.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with reporters and editors across the newsroom for stories featured in the newsletter. This includes arranging story publication time and soliciting copy in a reporter’s own words.
- Curate the NBC News homepage, app and social channels with a lively mix of breaking news, politics, enterprise reporting, liveblogs and live video.
- Write and send breaking news alerts.
- Write compelling headlines tailored for readers coming to the homepage and app.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ensure a seamless overnight handover with colleagues in the London bureau.
Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience writing and editing email newsletters in a digital newsroom.
- Excellent news judgment, knowing how each story should be distributed across NBC’s digital platforms.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Experience using news publishing and analytics tools.
- Ability to multitask and best prioritize tasks when news is breaking.
Additional Requirements:
- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week, Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Salary Range: $93,000-$110,000 prorated to assignment duration
