Role: Editor, Newsletters

Responsibilities: The newsletter editor will be a top-notch writer and skilled editor who will help guide and shape the newsletter efforts of Britannica and Merriam-Webster. This is a key role for our budding newsletter business, a central figure who will drive day-to-day efforts for a number of our highest-profile campaigns.
Specifically, the newsletter editor will be responsible for writing and editing multiple newsletters under the guidance of the editorial director. They will be a high-energy individual capable of consistently producing copy with creativity and flair on a broad range of topics. Furthermore, they will have a commitment to editorial quality, standards, and ethics, and know how to craft compelling reader experiences to build dedicated, engaged audiences.
The editor will also be a collegial partner capable of working across both editorial and business-focused teams (marketing, product, design, and technology) towards a common goal of success. They should be a font of ideas who prioritizes experimentation and analytics, regularly iterating on our offerings to better engage our readers. Finally, they will share a deep passion for Britannica’s mission as a foundation for the world’s knowledge.
Location: Chicagoland/Hybrid/Light Travel *Can be fully remote for out of state candidates.
Qualifications:
- At least 3+ years writing and editing for newsletters at a major publication.
- At least 10+ years of experience as a professional writer and editor.
- A strong portfolio of past newsletter work.
- Ability to use Google Analytics or another leading metrics tool.
Skills & knowledge:
- Superior writing and editing skills.
- Proven ability to author multiple newsletters simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working with e-mail service providers, including building and updating templates and deploying sends.
- Understanding of audience analytics and how to leverage metrics to grow and engage audiences.
- Excellent collaboration skills, and the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders across multiple departments
- A wide range of knowledge and curiosity.
