Program Description
The Communications Department drives content creation for over 60 diverse programs, delivering high-quality materials across multiple platforms, from printed collateral such as brochures and flyers to digital web and social media content. Our team also manages photoshoots, video production, and exciting events. We produce engaging newsletters and presentations ensuring consistent and impactful messaging to effectively support each program's unique needs.
Job Description
Felton Institute is seeking an experienced and versatile Marketing Project Manager to support the organization's growing communications and community engagement efforts. This role plays a key part in crafting compelling content, supporting strategic marketing initiatives, and coordinating cross-departmental communications projects.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Marketing Project Manager will contribute to high-quality messaging across digital, print, and public platforms, while helping ensure the organization's brand voice remains consistent and impactful. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer, detail-oriented project coordinator, and creative thinker who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Specific Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Messaging Development
- Act as a thought partner to the Director of Marketing & Communications, contributing to high-level strategy, problem-solving, and innovative approaches to storytelling, branding, and engagement.
- Lead the development of strategic, brand-aligned content across platforms, including newsletter articles, brochures, website copy, reports, talking points, and impact stories.
- Collaborate with Felton's Directors and Managers to understand and define content needs.
- Develop editorial concepts and pitch timely story ideas aligned with organizational priorities and monthly communications themes.
- Conduct thorough research and fact-check information for accuracy and credibility.
- Coordinate storytelling and communication requests across departments.
- Identify and pitch compelling stories to media outlets in partnership with the Director of Marketing & Communications
- Draft polished press releases and media statements that reflect key milestones, announcements, and organizational impact.
Marketing & Project Management
- Lead marketing planning and execution for specific programs and initiatives.
- Oversee the development of marketing materials by collaborating with the Graphic Design team and the Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Own project timelines, coordinate stakeholder feedback, and ensure high-quality completion of projects.
- Facilitate and lead meetings to keep projects on track and ensure effective communication across teams.
- Contribute messaging and creative direction for campaigns and events, ensuring all materials are consistent with Felton's brand identity
- Research and identify media opportunities, including awards, speaking engagements, podcast interviews, etc., and flag opportunities for Felton leaders.
- Manage press outreach tracking by logging pitches, coverage, and follow-ups so media relations are proactive.
- Research and recommend partnership opportunities with aligned organizations, businesses, or influencers to cross-promote.
Administrative Support
- Manage onboarding of new staff in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications, helping set a strong foundation for team success.
- Maintain and optimize shared content systems, editorial calendars, and workflows to ensure department efficiency.
- Manage and segment e-mail distribution lists for targeted outreach and audience engagement.
- Provide proactive support to the Communications department by anticipating needs, streamlining workflows, and enhancing our impact.
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor's Level Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.Â
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Canva, etc.)
- 4-6 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills; portfolio or writing samples required
- Experience managing cross-functional marketing projects from start to finish
- Understanding of media relations, storytelling strategy, and nonprofit brand alignment
- Familiarity with a fast-paced office environment dealing with media.
- Organized and deadline-driven with strong collaboration skills
- Excellent critical thinking and the ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems quickly and effectively.Â
- Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to occasionally travel to various Bay Area program locations to fulfill job responsibilities. Experience working in customer relations preferred.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually (DOE)
