EVENT AND MEMBERSHIP MANAGER
Northwest Yacht Brokers Association
The Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, a Seattle-based association of yachting professionals, seeks a multi-talented individual to produce events for the organization, including the Boats Afloat Show, as well as grow and support members of the organization.
The primary event focus of this role is production of the Boats Afloat Show, a four-day annual event in September. More information can be found at www.boatsafloatshow.com.
The duties of the Event and Membership Manager include, but are not limited to:
BOAT SHOW & EVENTS:
- Produce and organize the Boats Afloat Show, a multi-day, annual event occurring each September at South Lake Union.
- Manage layout of show – includes creating dock layout, organizing vessels and shoreside exhibitors, working with outside electrical and tug vendors, manage and design tenting layout with external vendor.
- Procure financial and in-kind sponsorships for the Boats Afloat Show
- Oversee all aspects of the show production, including organizing and spearheading Boat Show Committee meetings
- Manage relationships with outside creative agency, public relations agency and digital media partners.
- Business development: Generate new exhibitors for the show
- Learn and abide by City and State regulations pertaining to all aspects of the Boats Afloat Show
- Produce additional events throughout the year, e.g. Members’ Annual Meeting, open houses, continuing education seminars for members, Grow Boating promotions, etc.
MEMBERSHIP:
- Research and develop additional value-added benefits for members
- Develop monthly e-newsletter for members
- Manage association sub-committees (Boat Show, Grow Boating, etc.)
- Research and execute directives from the Board (revenue generation, future events, etc.)
- Manage monthly Board of Directors meetings (generate and manage agenda, lead meeting)
- Manage additional member tasks, e.g. renewals, new membership applications, etc.
- Serve as point person for any Member-related requests, assistance, etc.
- Manage day-to-day office related tasks (answer phones, sort mail, order office supplies, etc.)
Position will be a mix of in-office and optional work from home days (during off season). During show season (3+ months prior to show), job requires candidate to work in-office daily. Evening and weekend hours will be required during the show, and likely in the weeks leading up to the show. It is essential that the candidate be comfortable working by themselves daily – all other support staff for NYBA is remote.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, or other business-related field; or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Three years of event planning experience with increasing responsibility is preferred.
- Recreational marine industry experience is a plus.
- Ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Zoom are essential. Canva (or equivalent design program) experience a plus. Willingness to learn other programs that NYBA uses such as Wild Apricot for membership, and Quick Books for invoicing.
- Experience working with a creative agency is a plus.
- Job experience that demonstrates the ability to self-direct is a plus.

COMPENSATION:
Salary: Starting at $72,000 + performance bonuses
Vacation / Holidays: Two weeks of paid vacation, plus most major holidays. Additional five paid days off are available to be used in the weeks following the Boats Afloat Show.
