Description
The Seattle Storm is seeking a Seasonal Communications Associate to support communications across both business and basketball operations, with a primary focus on business initiatives. This role will help elevate the organization’s brand through strategic storytelling, including pitching and securing media coverage for front office leaders, community initiatives, partnerships and key organizational milestones. In addition, this role will support basketball communications efforts, including assisting with team media relations, game notes, press materials, and media coordination surrounding games and announcements.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and proactive communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to meaningful storytelling that connects the Storm to the Seattle community and beyond. This role will also assist with game day media operations, as needed.

- Assist with the creation and distribution of media materials, including press releases, media advisories, recaps, briefing documents, etc.
- Support proactive storytelling efforts by identifying feature opportunities around front office staff, business initiatives and community impact work.
- Maintain and update media lists, ensuring accurate and up-to-date journalist contacts.
- Assist with applications for awards recognizing Storm organizations, programs and employees.
- Assist with staffing interviews as needed.
- Develop relationships with local media.
- Track and compile media coverage reports and assist with preparing internal newsletter report.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities Include The Following
- Occasional game day media operations assistance including helping set up press conferences, distribute media materials, credential requests and more.
Requirements
Skills Required:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications/PR, or equivalent work experience.
- Related experience: 1-2 years of experience in a communications role required.
- Familiar with basketball terminology and rules.
- Understands what makes a good story and has experience crafting media pitches.
- Team-first attitude and relentless work ethic that is dedicated, detail orientated and willing to go above and beyond for the success of the department and team.
- Excellent writing and grammar, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Knowledge of AP Style preferred.
- Willing to work extended/non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is consistent with working in a live sports arena.
