It reaches over 84,000 subscribers across 190 countries and is syndicated to multiple publications around the world. The newsletter helps people discover the most useful sites and apps and helps busy professionals explore tech worth their time.
Wonder Tools is seeking a Strategic Operations Intern to support the publication’s day-to-day operations, subscriber communications, and business development efforts. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented undergraduate who wants hands-on experience in the business side of digital media—including customer relations, sponsor support, partnership outreach, and operational workflows. Subscriber Relations & Customer Service
- Respond to subscriber emails and Substack direct messages (questions about subscriptions, billing inquiries, access issues, tool suggestions)
- Handle routine refund and cancellation requests using established guidelines
- Escalate unusual or sensitive inquiries to the founder
- Respond to inbound PR and media inquiries: acknowledge, gather relevant details, and route to the founder for response
- Maintain a log of common subscriber questions and feedback to inform future content and FAQ resources
Research & Administrative Support
- Research tool details for upcoming posts when directed: pricing, platform availability, free vs. paid features, privacy policies
- Gather and verify links for newsletter posts (tool homepages, pricing pages, relevant past Wonder Tools posts)
- Help maintain the content calendar, post ideas tracker, and archive of published posts
- Support monthly paid subscriber operations: export and reformat subscriber lists for Luma event invitations, assist with event setup logistics
- Handle ad hoc research and administrative tasks related to growth, partnerships, and operations
Invoicing & Financial Admin
- Generate and send invoices to sponsors and workshop clients using established templates
- Track payment status and send polite follow-ups on outstanding invoices
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Media Studies, or a related field, or strong interest in newsletters, writing, journalism, or publishing.
- Strong written communication skills—able to draft professional, friendly emails and outreach messages
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through reliably
- Comfortable working with documents, spreadsheets, email, and web-based tools (Google Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
- Interest in digital media, technology, AI, or the newsletter/creator economy
- Proactive and resourceful—willing to figure things out independently and ask smart questions
- Responsive and professional in written communication
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Substack, newsletter platforms, or email marketing tools
- Experience with customer service, sales support, or outreach in any context
- Exposure to CRM tools, project management tools (Notion, Asana, Trello), or basic data analytics
- Interest in productivity tools, AI, or journalism

Hourly compensation during the internship: $15-$20.
