Position Summary
The Director of Development and Engagement is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive fundraising and communications strategy to advance BIAC’s mission. This role provides both strategic leadership and hands-on execution across fund development, donor engagement, marketing, events, and organizational communications.
The Director oversees all revenue-generating activities—including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, peer-to-peer campaigns, and events—while ensuring consistent, compelling messaging across all platforms. In a small team environment, this role also supports key operational and administrative functions that enable effective donor engagement and organizational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Development
- Develop and implement an annual fund development plan in partnership with the Executive Director
- Lead diversified fundraising efforts, including:
- Individual giving and major donor cultivation
- Corporate sponsorships and partnerships
- Annual appeals and online campaigns
- Peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and sponsors
- Support major gift strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director
- Track performance metrics and analyze fundraising outcomes to inform strategy
Donor Engagement & CRM Management
- Oversee donor stewardship strategy, ensuring timely and meaningful communication (acknowledgements, impact reporting, year-end summaries)
- Serve as primary administrator of BIAC’s CRM (DonorPerfect), ensuring data integrity, reporting, and effective donor tracking
- Manage gift processing, acknowledgements, and financial tracking in coordination with the bookkeeper
- Produce reports and analytics for internal leadership and Board of Directors
Events & Community Fundraising
- Lead planning and execution of BIAC’s signature fundraising events and community initiatives
- Integrate peer-to-peer fundraising strategies into events to maximize revenue and engagement
- Oversee all event logistics, including sponsorships, registration, volunteer coordination, and post-event reporting
Key Events Include:
- Golf Tournaments
- Walk for Thought
- Bike for Thought
- Annual Conference
- Serve as liaison for third-party and community-led fundraising events (e.g., Giving Tuesday, Facebook fundraisers)
- Collaborate with committees, volunteers, and partners to ensure successful execution
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy to support fundraising, programs, and public awareness
- Lead content creation across platforms, including:
- Monthly e-newsletter (The Buzz)
- Fundraising appeals and campaign materials
- Website and social media content
- Oversee website management and digital presence, coordinating with external vendors as needed
- Manage social media strategy to increase engagement, visibility, and donor participation
- Ensure consistent branding and storytelling across all communications
Membership & Community Engagement
- Oversee BIAC’s membership programs (Individual, Professional, Providers Council), including recruitment, retention, and engagement
- Maintain accurate membership data and reporting within the CRM
Board & Volunteer Engagement
- Serve as staff liaison to the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors
- Prepare reports, support meetings, and engage board members in fundraising efforts
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers supporting events, fundraising, and administrative functions
Operations & Administrative Support
- Support day-to-day administrative functions that impact donor engagement and organizational effectiveness
- Oversee donor communications, mailings, and database-related operational systems
- Coordinate with the bookkeeper on financial processes including deposits, reporting, and reconciliation
- Oversee and collaborate with contractors, consultants, and vendors supporting marketing, events, technology, and other organizational initiatives
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers supporting events, fundraising, and administrative functions
- Provide oversight of office technology and systems supporting communications and operations
Additional Information
- Occasional evenings and weekends required for events
- Reliable transportation required
- All staff are expected to perform additional duties as assigned
- This role requires professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and communications
- Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising campaigns
- Experience with CRM systems (DonorPerfect strongly preferred)
- Proficiency in digital fundraising tools, email marketing platforms, and social media strategy
- Experience managing websites (e.g., WordPress or similar CMS)
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, board members, volunteers, and external partners
