Position SummaryThe Marketing & Communications Assistant supports the Museum’s efforts to engage audiences and share the impact of Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art through digital communications, content creation and storytelling. This position assists in creating, scheduling, and monitoring content across social media platforms; producing monthly email newsletters; and providing design and administrative support to the Manager of Marketing and Communications.
This role is ideal for a creative, detail-oriented communicator who is passionate about contemporary art and community engagement.
Key ResponsibilitiesDigital Content & Social Media
· Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling engaging content for the Museum’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and others).
· Capture and curate images, videos, and stories to promote exhibitions, events, and programs.
· Monitor audience engagement and support timely responses to comments and messages.
· Track and report social media metrics to inform strategy.
Email & Web Communications
· Support the production and distribution of the Museum’s monthly e-newsletter and other email campaigns using approved templates and branding.
· Draft, edit, and proofread content that highlights exhibitions, programs, and membership initiatives.
· Manage and maintain email distribution lists, including audience segmentation, data hygiene, unsubscribes, and coordination with membership and development teams as needed.
· Update website content as needed under supervision of the Manager of Marketing and Communications.
Design & Branding
· Create and adapt visual materials such as graphics for social media, event flyers, and digital signage, in alignment with Museum branding standards.
· Coordinate with outside vendors or photographers as needed.
Department Support
· Assist with press and media tracking, file organization, and digital asset management.
· Provide administrative support for marketing campaigns, events, and promotions.
· Collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure consistent messaging and visibility for Museum initiatives.
· Coordinate with freelance or guest blog writers and upload blog content to the website.[AK1]
Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree (or current enrollment) in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Art History, or related field preferred.
· 1–2 years of relevant experience (internship or professional) in social media, digital communications, or marketing.
· Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
· Familiarity with social media platforms and scheduling tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, or similar).
· Basic graphic design skills using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar programs.
· Experience with Mailchimp email marketing platforms a plus.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Interest in contemporary art and the Museum’s mission.
Work Schedule and Compensation· Part-time, hourly position (approximately 20 hours per week).
· Compensation commensurate with experience.
