Company Description
The Museum of Advertising™ is a NYC-based nonprofit in progress, preserving and celebrating advertising as a creative discipline and cultural force. We are in the beginning stages of building the organization. Our 501(c)(3) application is in development, and full nonprofit status is expected to take at least a year to finalize.
In the meantime, we are doing the work: curating online exhibits, producing original writing and video, and planning toward a proposed pop-up exhibit in 2027.
We are founder-led, AI-augmented, and run asynchronously on Basecamp. Team members occasionally collaborate but mostly work autonomously toward weekly goals, communicating in writing. Volunteers self-manage and check in twice a week — what they’re working on Monday, what they shipped Friday. No recurring meetings.
Part-time Volunteer
This is an unpaid volunteer role, 5–10 hours per week. We are honest about the stage: there is no funding for compensation yet. As the museum secures 501(c)(3) status, grants, and sponsorship revenue, this role may convert to paid part-time or full-time employment. We make no guarantees on timing — likely a year or more — and current volunteers will be considered first.
What you get now: You'll be part of a small, self-selected team of people as motivated as you are — volunteers who chose this because they believe the mission and the work matter. You’ll also receivepublic credit on our website, in newsletter mastheads, and on major projects, a portfolio of real shipped work, access to the network we are building in advertising and brands, and direct experience with AI-augmented creative work. If you are looking for paid work today, this is not it. If you want to help build something from the ground up, read on.
