Compensation Range: $30.00-$34.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Overview:
Our client is seeking a Sports Editor to support the development and launch of a new NFL injury reporting product. This role will focus on researching, editing, and developing accurate, engaging content related to NFL player injuries, with the goal of launching the product as close to mid-October as possible.
The ideal candidate will have professional experience in football/NFL reporting, sports journalism, or sports editorial, with a strong understanding of NFL teams, players, terminology, and injury reporting. Candidates with a background in sports medicine, medical journalism, or health-related editorial content are also highly relevant. The ability to combine football knowledge with an understanding of sports injuries and medical terminology would be especially valuable.
Responsibilities:
- Research, write, edit, and maintain accurate NFL injury-related content for a new digital product.
- Monitor NFL injury news, player status updates, team reports, and other relevant sources.
- Translate complex injury and medical information into clear, accurate, and accessible content for a broad audience.
- Ensure injury-related content is factually accurate, appropriately sourced, and consistent with editorial standards.
- Review and edit content related to player injuries, diagnoses, treatment, recovery, and return-to-play status.
- Apply strong editorial judgment when evaluating and communicating injury information from multiple sources.
- Collaborate with editorial, product, medical, and other cross-functional teams to support product development and launch.
- Help establish and maintain consistent editorial standards, terminology, and processes for NFL injury reporting.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or inaccuracies in injury-related information and work to resolve them.
- Support ongoing updates and editorial coverage throughout the NFL season.
- Work in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail are critical.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Professional experience in sports journalism, sports reporting, sports editorial, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of the NFL, football terminology, teams, players, and the professional sports landscape.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
- Ability to accurately interpret and communicate detailed information.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to editorial accuracy.
- Ability to work quickly and effectively under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Atlanta, GA.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience specifically covering or reporting on the NFL or professional football.
- Background in sports medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, healthcare, medical journalism, or health editorial content.
- Experience reporting or editing content related to sports injuries, player health, diagnoses, treatment, or rehabilitation.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and common football-related injuries.
- Experience working with digital publishing platforms, content management systems, or sports/health content products.
- Experience collaborating with medical professionals, sports organizations, editorial teams, or product teams.
- Ability to bridge sports reporting expertise with medical or health information.
