Qstar Capital is seeking a Director of Communications to work directly with Founder and Managing Partner Alec Litowitz (also Founder & former CEO of Magnetar Capital; former Global Head of Equities at Citadel) to execute the full lifecycle of his upcoming book, associated thought-leadership assets, and public-facing communications. This role requires exceptional organizational ability, editorial sensitivity, and the intelligence to manage complex, evolving workflows across multiple stakeholders inside and outside the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Channel Leadership
- Own the end-to-end communications strategy and narrative architecture for the book, newsletter and all other public-facing outputs for Qstar.
- Determine the most effective formats, channels and cadence for communication core ideas: (e.g. Newsletter, LinkedIn, TED-style talks, podcasts, keynotes and other media related appearances).
- Help make strategic decisions about where ideas should live, how they should be adapted by channel, and which opportunities to pursue or decline.
- Serve as the primary steward of voice, positioning and conceptual clarity across all written and spoke materials.
- Translate core ideas into coherent, durable editorial framework that scales across formats and platforms.
- Act as a senior editorial partner to CEO, exercising judgement on messaging, emphasis, sequencing, and simplification.
Project & Workflow Coordination
- Design, oversee, and continuously refine the master project timeline across editing, tightening, glossary alignment, diagrams, quotes, metadata, manuscript delivery, and production milestones.
- Ensure deadlines are met while adapting to ongoing author-generated revisions.
- Manage coordination with the publisher, literary agent, PR teams, designers, developmental editors, and Qstar staff.
Editorial & Manuscript Operations
- Lead the “tightening” process: ensuring conceptual consistency (e.g., terminology applied uniformly across chapters).
- Track and evaluate changes across major edits coming from Alec, diagram placement decisions, glossary cross-referencing, and content coherence.
- Maintain a centralized, organized system for quotes, references, diagrams, title concepts, and conceptual notes.
Publishing & Production Management
- Own relationships with external PR firms, publishers and communications partners, setting strategy expectations, success metrics and timelines.
- Liaise with publishers and production teams regarding manuscript submissions, diagrams, cover concepts, permissions, copyedits, and proofs.
- Prepare and organize material for writers and other collaborators, ensuring nothing is lost in the process, providing clear strategic context, editorial direction, and quality standards.
Launch & Communications Strategy
- Define and execute the launch and ongoing communications strategy across all channels, in partnership with PR firms and internal teams on: TED-style talk framing, Elevator pitch and messaging, and Podcast appearances.
- Keynotes and public-facing simplification of core concepts.
- Determine timing and sequencing of announcements and ideas across platforms ensuring coherence, efficiency and maximum reach.
- Ensure alignment with external opportunities including launches, media moments and owned channels (e.g., integration with Alec’s existing letter distribution).
Operational & Administrative Support
- Maintain clear trackers for edits, diagrams, quotes, and outstanding decisions.
- Produce concise summaries, editorial judgements, decision memos, and prioritized action lists.
- Uphold exceptional discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in leading communications strategy, project management within publishing, editorial, consulting, or creative operations.
- Editorial intuition and familiarity with book workflows.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to simplify complex information.
- High personal organization, reliability, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with project management tools, cloud-based collaboration, and version control.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
