Reporting to the Sr. HRBP – Americas & EMEAI, the HR Generalist provides day-to-day HR support for our U.S. employee population, including plant-based teams. Based in STL, this role is the first point of contact for employee questions and concerns—providing timely resolution of routine issues and coordinating escalation and follow-up for higher-complexity matters. The HR Generalist supports a broad scope of HR responsibilities, including recruiting and onboarding, employee relations support, HR administration in Dayforce, leave coordination, benefits support, payroll data gathering, compliance reporting, and HR communications—ensuring an excellent employee experience while maintaining alignment with company policy and applicable employment laws.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Support & Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns, responding promptly and professionally.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers on HR policies, employee relations matters, and the consistent application of HR programs.
- Handle routine employee relations inquiries and investigations; escalate sensitive/complex matters to Sr. HRBP, Legal, or other partners as needed.
- Support termination processes, including exit logistics, equipment return coordination, and exit interviews as applicable.
- Manage employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Recruiting & Onboarding
- Support recruiting for North America: job postings, candidate sourcing/screening, interview coordination, and candidate communications.
- Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and drive effective recruitment and selection processes.
- Coordinate pre-employment activities, including background checks, I-9/eligibility verification, and compliance checks.
- Support onboarding logistics (new hire materials, badges, name plates, orientation support) to ensure a positive start-to-finish experience.
HR Operations: Dayforce, Leave, and Data Integrity
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and transactions in Dayforce (new hires, promotions, merit/bonus updates, life events, status changes, etc.).
- Serve as a point of contact for leave events (disability, bonding, and other leaves), coordinating with vendors and ensuring timely status updates and employee communications.
- Support accrual verification and employee questions related to PTO/vacation balances and deductions.
Benefits & Annual Programs Support
- Provide first-level benefits support for employee life events and general inquiries (marriage, birth/adoption, dependent changes, eligibility, etc.).
- Assist with benefits administration activities, including carrier file feed error review/drop reports, benefit invoicing tracking/entry, and annual enrollment support.
- Support annual compliance/program needs such as PPACA/1095 reviews, HSA/FSA testing support, and annual required notices.
Compliance, Reporting, and HR Programs
- Support HR compliance reporting and audits, such as EEO-1 data gathering, 401(k)/benefits audits and testing support, and 5500 assistance (data gathering and documentation support).
- Support workers’ compensation administration tasks, including classification assignments and audit assistance; assist with OSHA log reporting support as needed.
- Assist with periodic audits and compliance activities (including multi-state requirements, such as California-focused audits/reporting where applicable).
- Maintain knowledge of HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies to improve service delivery and compliance.
HR Communications & Engagement
- Create or coordinate monthly HR communications (e.g., HR newsletter) and maintain HR calendars (holiday/payroll calendars and updates).
- Support employee engagement/wellness initiatives (e.g., challenge programs) in partnership with internal stakeholders.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 0-2 years of professional HR experience with broad generalist exposure (employee support/relations, recruiting, HR operations).
- Strong working knowledge of HR compliance fundamentals (federal/state/local employment laws and best practices).
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams); ability to manage data accurately and confidentially.
- Excellent customer service mindset with the ability to triage, prioritize, and deliver timely, practical solutions.
Preferred
- PHR
- Experience supporting multi-state populations and compliance (including CA exposure where applicable).
- Experience with Dayforce (HRIS/payroll/benefits modules) and/or leave and benefits administration.
- Prior experience supporting manufacturing/plant or field employee populations and handling time-sensitive employee needs.
