GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The USCIB communications intern will play an important role in a small but mighty communications team, working alongside USCIB policy experts to support our efforts in a number of areas that affect the international business community. You will help draft press materials (statements, event summaries, and pitches), web site content, newsletter content, and social media content to support USCIB communications efforts in areas including digital policy, trade and investment, the environment and climate change, tax policy, health, human rights and corporate responsibility, and more.
This is a paid, part time internship (up to 30 hours per week) based in our downtown Washington DC office (McPherson Square metro station). We are a hybrid office with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Schedule is very flexible – you do not need to work 5 days per week but we do request at least two days in the office per week. This is a great opportunity to balance an internship with an undergraduate or graduate student schedule. This internship is a hands-on role where you’ll hone your writing skills and learn the ins and outs of working on a high-performing communications team.
A successful candidate will have:
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- Working knowledge of major content management systems, photo and video editing software such as Canva, and social media analytics tools.
- A “can do” mindset and willingness to jump in and learn.
- Experience managing social media platforms and crafting impactful social media content.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop content to inform, educate, and engage USCIB’s audiences.
- Take ownership of USCIB’s weekly e-newsletter by drafting, organizing, and tracking content, working in our digital marketing platform, and reaching out to staff across the organization in a timely manner to obtain content approval.
- Draft press statements, event summaries, and newsletter content.
- Design and draft succinct and informative LinkedIn posts in Canva, while following USCIB brand standards.
- Conduct analytics on social media activity and present performance updates to communications and policy staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the communications team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong communications, analytical, writing, design, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in digital marketing/social media marketing.
- High degree of organization, attention to detail, and skill at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to work as a part of a team, but also independently.
- Proficiency in LinkedIn and Canva.
- Experience with WordPress is preferred but we can train you.
- Experience with digital marketing platforms (like Brevo) a plus.
- Interest or background in public policy and international relations is a plus.
- Familiarity with Meltwater media database is a plus, as is proficiency in social media analytics software to track audience engagement and campaign performance.
