Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) established in 2003 is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded, non-profit organization. CCLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and otherwise eligible residents of Broward County and is located in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. Our mission is to provide equal justice to underserved communities through quality and innovative free civil legal aid. CCLA provides legal advocacy for individuals in our community, helping thousands of economically disadvantaged residents to gain greater access to justice and much-needed legal assistance to remove barriers to a healthy and stable life.
CCLA provides legal assistance in the areas of Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health (public benefits), and Senior Law for people age 60 and older. CCLA is currently seeking a hardworking, compassionate Assistant Director of Development & Communications (ADDC) to assist the Director of Development & Communications (DDC) to increase and diversify revenue sources to continue CCLA’s mission for equal access to justice by meshing funding opportunities with the programmatic activities of the organization. Assists the DDC to develop strategies to initiate and meet fundraising goals, leading the effort to identify and engage new supporters and prioritize unrestricted revenue sources and strategies that secure, expand, and grow CCLA’s financial base.
Position Duties
- Assists the DDC to manage CCLA’s portfolio of current donors, sponsorships, prospective individual donors, corporate donors, and family foundations.
- Assists the DDC to create and build the relationships that fund CCLA’s program work.
- Member of the Management Team and plays a critical role in developing and implementing the overall development, giving, fundraising, grants, and communications for CCLA.
- Member of the Strategic Committee and assist with strategic planning and programmatic matters as they relate to development and fundraising.
- Assists the DDC to implement Strategic Plan goals.
- With the DDC, responsible for regular CCLA communications such as the monthly newsletter, social media posts, press releases, etc. Speak and write in compelling language, including storytelling, about benefits of legal services and equal access to justice.
- Along with the DDC, operates as a spokesperson for CCLA and as a liaison to the community.
- Advise the DDC, Management staff, and the Board of Directors on development activities and provide regular reports to the Board.
- In collaboration with the DDC, Executive Director, and Management Team, leads a full range of development activities including major individual and planned gifts, grants, annual fund, corporate giving, foundation philanthropy and capacity-building support, fundraising communications, sponsorships, and special event revenue.
- With the DDC, plans and implements events for CCLA.
- Understand and adhere to rules and regulations of the Legal Services Corporation, and all other applicable regulations and rules for grants, fundraising, and communications.
- May supervise staff as programmatic demands increase.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and/or requested by Executive Director, Director of Development & Communications, Management Team, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations or a related field preferred.
- At least Five (5) years of experience with development and fundraising.
- Strong planning skills, effective communication skills and working as part of a team.
- Proficiency with donor management software. Donor Perfect experience a plus.
- Ability to forge new relationships and foster existing relationships.
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising, grants, communications, and marketing.
- Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to confidently address diverse audiences.
- Connection to, or familiarity with, the South Florida region is preferred.
- Must be able to adapt to an evolving environment and thrive in a collaborative and deadline-oriented workplace.
- Sound judgment and ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality when dealing with confidential information regarding CCLA’s business, clients, and sensitive donor information.
