NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. NAMI Wisconsin is the state affiliate of NAMI and works to support 20+ local affiliates throughout the state of Wisconsin. Together, our mission is to improve the quality of life of people affected by mental illness and to promote recovery.
NAMI Wisconsin works closely with our affiliates across the state to develop and implement programs that provide support, education, and awareness surrounding mental illness. In addition to program development and support, NAMI Wisconsin also hosts an Annual Conference that allows mental health providers, government officials, criminal justice partners, peers, family members, and mental health advocates to come together to share their ideas, stories, and experiences to create change and provide support. NAMI Wisconsin also oversees the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program, a community initiative designed to improve the outcomes of police interactions with people living with mental illnesses. Advocacy is also a part of our mission, and we host an Action on the Square Budget Advocacy Day which includes an educational session and arranging a day for those affected by mental illness to speak to their legislators.
