Market Assistant Job Description
The KCK Farmers Market is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Market Assistant to support the Market Manager during our weekly market for 2026. The Market Assistant will assist in coordinating a successful farmers market, including interacting with farmers, community partners, and customers; creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere; and ensuring accurate recordkeeping and use of food assistance benefits programs.
The KCK Farmers Market runs biweekly Saturdays from June through October, 8am-1pm; this position is part-time, starting at 8 hours/week, with the possibility of up to 12 hours/week. This position pays $17/hour and includes a small health stipend. This position is grant funded, and temporary, but has the potential to be extended dependent on future funding. The Market Assistant will report to the Market Manager.
Qualifications:
Required
- Willingness and availability to work Saturdays from June to October from 6:30am-2pm
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Experience with graphic design, social media, and marketing
- Ability to meet the physical job requirements of the position – i.e. lift 50 pounds, handle exposure to elements, be standing or walking for long periods (all day)
- Access to reliable transportation
- Fluency in English
- Strong people skills- flexibility and patience when stressful situations arise
Preferred
- Web and social media management skills
- Familiarity with local food and agriculture
- Fluency in any of the following languages: Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Burmese
Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth operation on market days, including but not limited to set up and breakdown (putting up tents, tables, signs, etc), transporting equipment and supplies, coordinating logistics like vendor arrival, set up, & breakdown, and administering transactions.
- Collect and maintain market data, including customer information and transactions
- Administer the SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks program, Senior Vouchers program and other food assistance programming.
Capture photo and video content during markets for social media and marketing
- Responsible for communicating and enforcing market rules and regulations with support from the market manager and market board, and responding to complaints from vendors and customers
- Assist Market Manager with social media, newsletter, and other outreach activities as needed
- Assist market manager and board of directors with special events and outreach initiatives
- Communicate regularly with Market Manager and attend monthly Board meetings
