Job Description

Summary Of Responsibilities
The Editorial Coordinator is based in the Kansas City metropolitan area, offering a primarily work-from-home schedule, with periodic on-site presence for training, meetings, and other events. The key purpose of the Editorial Coordinator role is to support editorial content development from topic selection to the preparation of accepted manuscripts for editing. The Editorial Coordinator also proofs content for distribution through print, online, and email channels. Supporting Continuing Medical Education (CME) accreditation and compliance requirements and performing a variety of administrative tasks are also significant aspects of this role, which requires independent work as well as collaboration with other editorial coordinators and other members of the medical and professional editing teams.
Specific Aspects Include
- Coordinates early stages of content development, from topic prioritization to manuscript submission, including Call for Papers/Call for Authors, proposal, and solicitation processes, serving as a primary point of contact for medical editors and authors as this work unfolds and ensuring that database is up-to-date and accurate.
- Coordinates manuscript intake processes, including organizing and formatting content, sending articles for peer review and tracking to completion, assessing copyright status of borrowed items, submitting and tracking permission requests, and ensuring that database is up-to-date and accurate. Serves as a primary point of contact for medical editors, authors, and peer reviewers as this work unfolds.
- Proofs articles, departments, and monographs in layout; compiles and proofs print and electronic tables of contents.
- Supports CME accreditation and compliance processes.
- Performs various administrative tasks, including updating editorial policies and procedures, author instructions, and managing shared email inboxes.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, or related area plus 2-4 years of work experience. Exceptional command of English grammar and usage and excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines, are necessary. Knowledge of editorial standards, publishing processes, and medical terminology helpful. The ability to work at a computer and proofread detailed and lengthy copy required.
