About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Copywriter/Editor to support a high-performing editorial team focused on creating and optimizing personal finance content for both traditional search and AI-driven search.
This is an editor-first role with a primary focus on assigning content to freelance writers and editing and optimizing articles for SEO, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), search intent, and personal finance accuracy. The role will also include some light writing and occasional publishing support. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment, excellent attention to detail, familiarity with personal finance topics, and a foundational understanding of how content is optimized for AI search.
You will collaborate with senior editors, Content Strategists, Subject Matter Experts, Quality Specialists, freelance writers, and publishing partners. The ability to manage multiple assignments, work effectively against deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities will be essential.
What You'll Do
• Assign personal finance articles to freelance writers based on editorial priorities and content needs.
• Edit and optimize content for traditional SEO and AI-driven search/GEO.
• Review articles for personal finance accuracy, search intent, structure, quality, and overall editorial standards.
• Ensure content is clear, practical, accurate, and consumer-focused.
• Apply established editorial style and standards consistently across assigned content.
• Edit content covering credit, credit scores, banking, credit cards, loans, money management, and other personal finance topics.
• Translate complex financial concepts into accessible educational content for consumers.
• Apply strong editorial judgment when working within a regulated financial services environment.
• Write limited short-form content when needed.
• Occasionally support content publishing and related editorial processes.
• Collaborate with senior editors and publishing partners to move content from assignment through completion.
• Partner with Content Strategists, Subject Matter Experts, Quality Specialists, and freelance writers.
• Independently manage assigned projects, content, and editorial tasks.
• Work effectively with distributed teams and multiple stakeholders.
• Adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining editorial quality and meeting deadlines.
• Maintain high standards for accuracy, research integrity, and content quality.
Approximate Time Split
• 30% assigning content
• 50% editing
• 20% writing and publishing support
What We're Looking For
• 5+ years of writing and/or editing experience, preferably within personal finance or a related content environment.
• Strong editorial or content editing experience.
• Experience creating or editing personal finance content.
• Working knowledge of credit, credit scores, banking, credit cards, loans, and other personal finance topics.
• Strong understanding of SEO principles and content optimization.
• Foundational understanding of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and AI-driven search.
• Ability to optimize content based on search intent.
• Experience working in a regulated financial services environment.
• Ability to communicate complicated financial topics through clear, practical, consumer-focused content.
• High editorial standards and exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience working with AP Style or other established editorial style guidelines.
• Excellent project and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to independently manage assigned projects and deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and adjust workloads as needed.
• Strong commitment to accuracy, research integrity, and editorial quality.
• Ability to edit financial content effectively without requiring deep subject matter expertise.

Education
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Equivalent relevant editorial, content, publishing, or personal finance experience may be considered in place of a degree.
