Company Description. PowerHouse Texas is a nonpartisan nonprofit that cultivates energy policy leaders, fosters bipartisan collaboration, and informs evidence-based policy for Texas energy and environmental challenges. We equip policymakers, legislative staff, industry experts, innovators, researchers and community leaders with educational resources that support Texas energy leadership. The Texas Energy & Climate Caucus, a bipartisan legislative caucus and legally distinct 501(c)(4), builds consensus for a sustainable Texas energy economy.
About the Role. The Program Director oversees all PowerHouse Texas and Texas Energy & Climate Caucus programs and makes sure they advance the organization's strategic vision. Current programs include the Energy Academy, the Policy Fellowship, statewide infrastructure tours, public forums and Caucus member briefings. Leading a team of full-time program staff and outside logistics consultants, you'll execute these programs and help create the conditions for more robust, scientifically informed policymaking at the Texas Capitol. This is a hands-on role: you'll lead the team and also execute, delegate and close loops yourself.
Responsibilities
- Oversee every PowerHouse and Caucus program, from the annual calendar and goals to participant experience and outcomes.
- Manage the team's programming calendar and budget.
- Lead program staff and logistics consultants: set clear expectations, delegate, and make sure each deliverable has one owner, one approver and a record.
- Directly administer any programs that do not have another staff member assigned as lead; the Program Director is the ultimate program executor.
- Turn approved policy priorities and research into nonpartisan educational programs, working with the policy team to keep content accurate.
- Keep all programming compliant with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) rules, with PowerHouse and Caucus activities clearly separated.
- Flag at-risk deliverables early, run program debriefs, and keep templates, trackers and run-of-show documents current.
- Track outcomes and supply funder and Board reporting.
- Build relationships with legislative offices, partners and speakers that make programs stronger.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of nonprofit program management, including managing staff and outside vendors or consultants.
- Experience in the Texas legislative environment, such as a member office, committee or agency, especially through one or more sessions
- A record of designing and delivering programs, convenings or trainings for policymakers, staff or professional audiences.
- Strong project and budget management: you plan, delegate, follow up and finish.
- Clear writing and confident facilitation.
- Comfort working across the aisle and holding a nonpartisan line.
- Familiarity with Texas energy issues, ERCOT or the PUC.
Benefits
- Medical, dental and vision insurance, with PowerHouse Texas paying 75% of the employee-only premium; coverage starts the first of the month after your start date.
- Flexible paid time off.
- 13 paid holidays, including the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
