Historic Oakland Foundation (HOF) is seeking a motivated and creative Marketing Intern to join our team. This role will support the Marketing & Communications Manager and Senior Director of Marketing & Communications in sharing HOF’s mission with the wider Atlanta community, increasing engagement and attendance at our signature events, and reaching new audiences through social media, digital advertising, direct marketing, and print campaigns.
This is a part-time, in-person position ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, and community engagement.
Historic Oakland Foundation (HOF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 1976 as the “friends of” group for Oakland Cemetery. Our mission is to partner with the City of Atlanta to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery with the public as an important resource and an island of tranquility in the heart of the city. Oakland Cemetery is a garden oasis, historical repository, cultural resource, and leader in restoration and cemetery interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Support planning and execution of marketing campaigns.
- Write and edit copy for social media posts, promotional emails, and marketing collateral.
- Assist in the creation of photo and video content for HOF’s digital channels.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop new marketing ideas.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to identify innovative strategies for reaching diverse audiences across Atlanta.
- Contribute storytelling and content for Oakland’s Digging Deeper blog and biweekly e-newsletter.
- Coordinate and establish partnerships with community organizations, key figures, and social media influencers.
- Represent HOF as an ambassador at events including community/local festivals, promoting and sharing our mission with a wide range of audiences.
Requirements
- Awareness of social media trends and best practices, and ability to discern how Oakland’s social media presence can engage with them in an engaging yet respectful manner.
- Experience using Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for trying new approaches.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to authentically engage with diverse communities online and in person.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments (Gardens, Preservation, Administration, Programming, Development).
- Appreciation for HOF’s mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share historic Oakland Cemetery.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience promoting arts, cultural, or community events.
- Photography, videography, and video editing skills.
- Graphic design skills.
- Familiarity with Meta Ads, Canva, Mailchimp, and Squarespace.
- Passion for history, storytelling, or public green spaces.
Details
- Part-time: 15-20 hours per week.
- Required to work on-site at 374 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SE, Atlanta, GA.
- Occasional evenings and weekends required.
- Dates: April 1- July 1
- Compensation: $15/hour.
